Pre-School Screening
Niles Elementary School District 71 participates in the Child Find Project, which seeks to identify and evaluate children who may need special education and/or related services. Screening is available throughout the year for children 3-5 years old who live in the community. The process is very simple. Parents can pick up screening packets in the school office. When the packet has been completed and the information provided has been reviewed, a team meets to determine whether an evaluation in the form a of a play-based assessment is needed. Parents are then invited to bring their child in to “play” with a team of specialists. If the team determines that special services are appropriate, a meeting is scheduled and eligibility, goals and services are discussed with parents.
