Anyone who attended Fall Fest this year saw how much fun families can have when they get together to support Culver School.
Fall Fest is one of the annual events sponsored by the Culver PTA. Besides giving parents and educators a chance to celebrate the season, it is the PTA’s first big fundraiser of the school year. This year’s event raised a little more than $4,000—the most successful one yet.
That money will now help the PTA support activities throughout the year. These include a Back to School Bash the first week of school, a luncheon for teachers at the beginning of the year, monthly movie nights and “Make It Take It,” an after-school arts-and-crafts activity for students.
The PTA also uses some funds for one-time purchases, such as new volleyball uniforms. “Last year, we were able to sponsor an ‘experiential day’ for all of the students in which each grade participated in an activity,” said Culver PTA treasurer Amy Pukal. “The activities ranged from going to a play, to making tie-dye shirts, to having the opportunity to see and touch different exotic animals.” There are plans for another experiential day this year with different activities.
In March, the PTA sponsors its largest fundraiser of the year—a pasta dinner that features a silent auction with artwork by students.
The PTA depends on parent volunteers to make its events so successful. This year, the Culver group has approximately 225 members, including parents and staff. “We have a good core who attend meetings but we would love it if more parents came,” said PTA co-president Victoria Luz. Meetings take place at the school at 7 p.m. every third Monday of the month, except on holidays.
“Parents should get involved because the activities and items that the PTA sponsors enrich the lives of Culver students—our children,” Pukal said. “It’s a wonderful way to set a positive example for our children as well as a great way to meet other parents and school staff.”
