Clarence E. Culver School is thrilled to announce that its physical education program has been awarded the prestigious Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD) Blue Ribbon Award. This honor recognizes Culver's commitment to providing students with a high-quality physical education experience that promotes physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, and overall well-being.
The IAHPERD Blue Ribbon Award is a testament to the dedication of Culver School’s physical education team, led by Mr. Palazzolo, Mrs. DeCicco, and Mr. Brummitt. Mr. Brummitt was proud to say, “Receiving the Blue Ribbon award for the 4th year in a row is a tremendous honor. As a department we are always looking for new ways to stay current with teaching and providing students with opportunities to express themselves in a variety of activities. We have added so many new things to our curriculum all while making sure it is developmentally appropriate for all students and most importantly engaging for them as well! We have such a supportive administration that values Physical Education for our students, and without that support it would make the blue ribbon process difficult.”
Culver School’s physical education program is designed to engage students of all abilities and learning styles. The program incorporates a variety of activities, including traditional team sports, fitness challenges, and creative movement experiences.
The impact of Culver School’s physical education program is evident in the enthusiasm and positive attitudes of its students. “I love coming to gym class, and cosmic bowling is so great,” declared a fifth-grader. “We always have fun and learn new things.”
The IAHPERD Blue Ribbon Award is not only a recognition of Culver School’s physical education program but also a celebration of the school’s overall commitment to student well-being. “We believe that physical education is an essential part of a well-rounded education, and we are so proud to have earned this honor for the 4th time. Our PE teachers are dedicated, caring educators, committed to student wellness,” stated principal Erica Smolinski. “This award reinforces our commitment to providing our students with the tools and resources they need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.”
The IAHPERD Blue Ribbon Award is a significant achievement for Culver School. “There are a lot of steps in the process to earning a Blue Ribbon award, but with the strong, cohesive physical education department we have definitely made the process smooth and meaningful. We truly have a wonderful program that I am proud to be a part of and I can't wait to continue working to make the program even better!” said Mr. Brummitt.
