Culver School joined the Niles Park District for a Halloween celebration billed as “Trunk or Treat” at the Oasis Fun Center on Saturday morning, Oct. 31. Representatives from Culver and other local schools, organizations and businesses decorated their vehicles and passed out individually wrapped bags of candy to families who drove through the parking lot dressed in Halloween costumes.
Doing the honors for Culver were District 71 Supt. John Kosirog, Principal Erica Smolinski and Assistant Principal Oscar Suarez — dressed up for the occasion as Culver mascot Spike — together with administrative assistants Debra Jordan and Carol Provost. All participants wore masks and practiced social distancing.
A month later, on Nov. 28, Culver also took part in a “Jolly Drive-Thru” sponsored by the Park District and the Village of Niles. The event featured holiday characters, decorated vehicles from the Niles Fire, Police and Public Works departments, and the annual village Christmas tree.
Culver families and staff donated more than 250 toys that were distributed to families who attended.
